Topic: Operations in Iraq and Afghanistan
Our Winter Speaker Series launches on January 15th with Colonel Matthew Todd, a volunteer speaker from USAWC and will be sharing a wide variety of experiences from combat to peacekeeping, both on a personal level and as a leader of troops at various echelons. His talk will last about 1 hour with a Q&A time at the end. This presentation is not graphic and children are welcome to join us.
Colonel Todd recently served as the Branch Chief for Global Campaign Plans for the Joint Staff J5, where he led the development and integration of globally prioritized military campaign plans, aligned with national defense strategy objectives. His work supported strategic-level coordination across combatant commands, interagency partners, and allied forces.
Previously, he commanded 3rd Battalion, 353rd Regiment at the Joint Readiness Training Center, overseeing the Army’s Security Cooperation and Advisor training enterprise. In that role, he led operations in over a dozen locations to prepare deploying forces for global partner force advising and security assistance missions.
Matt has held command and key staff positions at every echelon from Flight and Troop Command through Division and Corps levels. His roles included Maintenance Flight Commander, Cavalry Troop Commander, Reconnaissance Observer-Controller in Europe, Battalion Executive Officer, and Chief of Plans for I Corps. His leadership experience spans both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army, with operational deployments to Korea and Kosovo and combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
